Even Paradise Has Rainy Days (And That's Okay)

April 03, 20262 min read

Can I be real with you for a minute?

This week I was an hour late for my YouTube livestream. Not because of technical issues or a scheduling mix-up, but because life is happening – even here in paradise.

We often see those picture-perfect Instagram posts of laptop-on-the-beach moments, but here's the unfiltered truth: personal struggles don't check your zip code or bank balance before showing up. They just show up.

Here's what I want you to know: Rest isn't a reward for working hard – it's a requirement for doing great work. Let me repeat that: REST IS A REQUIREMENT, not a reward.

Whether you need to:

✓ Take a mental health day

✓ Show up imperfectly

✓ Lean on your community

✓ Disconnect completely

Whatever you need is what you need. Period.

My community showed up for me today, sending energy and understanding right back my way. But if I had chosen to take the day off completely? That would have been okay too.

Remember: Balance isn't about perfect equilibrium – it's about finding what works for YOU in each moment.

I know this might sound counterintuitive, but I need to say it: Stop asking your board to fundraise.

Here's the truth that nobody's talking about: Your board members aren't professional fundraisers – you are. When you keep pushing them to fundraise, you're actually creating confusion and anxiety. After all, isn't fundraising why they hired you?

Let me be clear: Your board's real power lies in making introductions and being passionate advocates for your

mission. That's their superpower, and that's what we should be tapping into.

Here's what actually works:

• Ask for introductions, not donations

• Equip them with compelling stories to share

• Set clear, achievable networking goals

• Celebrate when they open doors (not when money comes in)
